Databases and domains

Manage My Databases, users and privileges, the prefix, the wizard, phpMyAdmin and remote access; Domains, addon domains, subdomains, aliases, redirects and the Zone Editor.

Two groups of the hosting panel that customers use every day: Databases for MySQL and MariaDB, and Domains for the names their sites answer to.

Databases

Databases → Manage My Databases is the main page. Everything below respects the package limit Max SQL Databases, and a database that cannot be created because the limit is reached says so.

The prefix

If the account was created with Database prefix on (the default), every database and user name starts with the account name and an underscore: typing shop creates demo_shop. A name that already carries the prefix is kept as it is. Names may use letters, digits and underscores, up to 64 characters.

Create a database, a user, and join them

  1. Create New Database - type the name.
  2. MySQL Users → Add New User - a user name and a password. The Generate Password button makes a strong one.
  3. Add User To Database - choose the user and the database, then tick the privileges, or tick ALL PRIVILEGES. The list is the usual one: ALTER, CREATE, DELETE, DROP, INDEX, INSERT, LOCK TABLES, SELECT, UPDATE, TRIGGER and more.

The table below shows each database with its size and the users who may use it. You can change a user's privileges, remove a user from a database, Rename or Delete a database, change a password or delete a user. Deleting a database drops its data for good.

The wizard

Databases → MySQL Database Wizard walks through the same three steps on one screen sequence: database, user, privileges. Use it for a first site.

phpMyAdmin

Databases → phpMyAdmin opens the database browser. The customer is signed in as their own account and sees only their databases.

Remote Database Access

By default MySQL accepts connections from this server only. Databases → Remote Database Access lists the Access Hosts that may connect from outside. Enter a Host (the % wildcard is allowed, for example 203.0.113.%) and a Comment, and press Add Host. Keep the list short; every host is a door.

PostgreSQL

PostgreSQL Databases, PostgreSQL Database Wizard and phpPgAdmin appear when PostgreSQL is installed on the server and the feature list allows them.

Domains

All of these write the DNS zone and the web server's virtual host for you. The limits come from the package: Max Addon Domains, Max Subdomains, Max Parked Domains.

ToolUse
DomainsOne list of every domain with its Document Root, Redirects To and a Force HTTPS Redirect switch. Create A New Domain adds one.
Addon DomainsA second site on its own domain. Fields: New Domain Name, Subdomain / FTP Username and Document Root. A folder of the home is made for it.
Subdomainsblog.example.com. Fields: Subdomain, the domain under it and the Document Root. A DNS record is added to the parent zone.
AliasesA domain that shows the same site as another one (parked). Remove them in the second card.
RedirectsA permanent (301) or temporary (302) redirect from a path or a whole domain.
Site PublisherA ready one-page site for a domain, in a few clicks, without any code.
Zone EditorAdd, edit and delete DNS records of the account's domains, in the same editor the Host Manager uses.
Dynamic DNSA secret address that updates an A record from a home router.

A new domain needs its name servers (your server's NS names) set at the registrar before it shows the site. Until then, test with the hosts file of your own computer.

The main domain of an account cannot be removed. Removing an addon domain or a subdomain removes its virtual host and its DNS records, and leaves the files in the home folder.

Remote domains

Tweak Settings → Domains → Allow remote domains (off by default) lets accounts add names whose DNS is hosted elsewhere. Two more switches decide whether domains that already point to another server, or are owned by another account, can be added. See Services, backups and server settings.

For the host

The same numbers are in the Host Manager: Account Information → List Parked Domains, List Subdomains and Search for a Domain, and the Zone Manager in DNS and SSL.
